India is a great market. It shouldn’t be your only one.
Five reasons Indian investors hold part of their wealth in the world’s largest markets.

The dollar is your second return.
One US dollar cost ₹74.79 in October 2021 and ₹96.78 in October 2026. Over 20 years the rupee has weakened by about 3.2% a year on average, because India’s inflation runs higher than America’s.
A dollar asset earns twice: what the asset grows, plus what the dollar gains.
Your portfolio has a home bias.
Property, fixed deposits, gold, mutual funds, Indian stocks: most Indian wealth sits entirely at home. A US pension fund would never put 100% in America. Indian families shouldn’t put 100% in India.
Own the businesses that run the world.
The leaders in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cloud, global pharma, payments and consumer brands are not listed in India. Global markets give you the sectors Indian indices don’t have.
No market wins every decade.
From 2003 to 2013, India beat America by a wide margin. Since 2016, America has led. Diversification isn’t about picking the winner. It’s about not needing to.
Your future is priced in dollars.
A $50,000 year of US tuition cost about ₹37 lakh in late 2021 and about ₹48 lakh today. If you will pay for anything in dollars, part of your savings should be in dollars.
